Except you can’t show a topless woman on TV - and you can’t defibrillate a woman in a bra. So victims of heart attacks on TV are always male. Did you know that a woman having a heart attack is more likely to have back or jaw pain than chest or left arm pain? I didn’t - because I’ve never seen a woman having a heart attack. I’ve been trained in CPR and Advanced First Aid by the Red Cross over 15 times in my life, the videos and booklets always have a guy and say the same thing about clutching his chest and/or bicep.

And people laugh when I tell them women are still invisible in this world.

re: feministing - for women, heart attacks look different

Things I did not know, but should.

This is a post that might save a life.

My mom worked for 25 years as an ER nurse and is convinced that a lot of women die simply because folks only know heart attack symptoms that occur in males.

Society thinks our bodies are so scandalous that it’s better to put our lives at risk than to show us how to stay safe

A friend of mine was having a cardiac episode recently, and it began with jaw pain. I had never heard of this before, and god help us, she had to explain to me how cardiac events present in women WHILE HAVING ONE. (I didn’t disbelieve her, I just had idea what the jaw pain meant.)

She is fine now. But if your heart is failing, I suspect you have better things to do than explain to your slow but well-meaning friend the symptoms of a heart attack in women.

I’d like to take a moment to bring to people’s attention what is happening in Scotland right now, more specifically Glasgow. I’m not sure many of you even realise that yesterday we had the chance to vote to be an independent country, and overall, the run up to voting day was fantastic! There was such passion and positivity from both Yes and No camps, but that is now a thing of the past as since the votes have been counted and a NO vote has won 55% to 45% YES. George square has been the hub for many YES gatherings over the past few weeks, and I live in Glasgow and I’ve walked through them, and it’s been a really great atmosphere, but these pictures show what replaces that today. Within 48 hours it has gone from a scene of positivity, to complete anarchy, and the BBC has covered virtually none of it! I ask that you please be aware of the discord going on in Glasgow and Scotland right now, and if you’re in Glasgow please stay at home and be safe, this is not how it should have ended.

I’ll never understand why funding for the arts is the first thing to get cut. Music is Math. Theatre is English. Tech is science. Dance is physical education. The arts are everything.

Real Time with Bill Maher: 6.6.14 — Anthony Weiner, Jim Geraghety, Nicolle Wallace

#FINALLYSOMEONESAYSIT

Holy shit, Anthony Weiner actually said something important.

It’s a miracle!

That’s been the Republican strategy since day one of Obama’s presidency. Block the President at every turn, then blame him for not getting anything done. In fact, here’s Newt Gingrich openly admitting to it.

That’s why Republicans block jobs bills — so they can blame Obama for the economy still sucking. They’ve blocked budgets, resulting in a government shutdown that they then tried to blame on Obama. They’ve tried over and over again to block Obamacare, and complain that it’s a failure as they work their asses off to try to make it fail.

It’s kindergarten politics, and we need to vote these schmucks out in November. A bunch of white guys throwing temper tantrums and shouting NO! to everything just because they don’t like the president is no way to run a government, especially if we’re going to continue to pretend to be one of the greatest nations on earth.

Eeyore is just one of those characters that you wanna scoop up and hug forever.

One awesome thing about Eeyore is that even though he is basically clinically depressed, he still gets invited to participate in adventures and shenanigans with all of his friends. And they never expect him to pretend to feel happy, they just love him anyway, and they never leave him behind or ask him to change.

Oh

oh

And he does feel happy, though. He can be happy. He just doesn’t show it as much as the others do.
There was a whole episode about that - Piglet sees him sitting on a hilltop and thinks he’s sadder than usual, and does all he can to cheer him up. Nothing works and the next day he’s back on the hill, and Piglet apologizes because he thinks in trying to help, he just made him sad again and ”I don’t come here when I’m sad. I come up here because I’m happy.”

There’s just something about that…

You just described the episode that made me cry with happiness every time as a kid.
